The average salary of a family physician is $137,000 annually.  This is about the same as other primary care specialties.  A doctor’s salary can really vary, depending on how hard you work.  For the most part, you will make more if you see more patients.
 
Loan repayment is a big concern for students.  Loan repayment positions abound in Family Medicine.  These are National Health Service Corps positions in underserved areas (urban and rural).  You work for a salary but also get up to $25000/year paid off your debt.  There is a two-year minimum contract.  By staying four years at a site, you can pay off $120,000 of debt.  There are many unfilled NHSC positions each year.
