Opportunities to Support the Department: Why We Need Your Help Now
We have been successful obtaining federal grants to help support
our educational endeavors. Unfortunately, these funds will not pay
for community service nor research projects conducted by our junior
faculty.
With recent significant decreases in state funding and lowered
third-party reimbursements, we are now faced with the grim
possibility of having to reduce these endeavors. We are turning to
our alumni and other friends in this difficult financial climate to
ask for your support. Donations may be earmarked for one of the
following areas or given as an unrestricted gifts to be used at the
Chairman's discretion.
Community Service:
One of our greatest areas of need is support for faculty time
spent in our numerous community outreach efforts to help
disadvantaged populations. We make a difference in the health
of many underserved patients every day. Additional funding is
necessary to help foster this mission.
Research Projects:
A second area of need is support for our growing research
programs. While our more established research faculty are beginning
to obtain grants, our younger research faculty need support for
their initial work so they can build track records that will form
the basis for obtaining grants.
Resident Libraries:
We also need financial help with our residency program libraries.
Now that residents are being trained at a number of sites, we must
develop high quality libraries at each location.
