A Blending of Academic Mission and
Community Experience.
We are a
community hospital program administered by the University of
Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine. Having a 30 year tradition
in Cincinnati Medicine, we seek the best training experiences
available to us in the area. As a result we are a "blended" program
offering rotations in academic medical centers, community hospitals,
family medicine and ambulatory sites, nursing homes, and
international locations to create a diverse training experience for
each resident. One of the program's goals is to tailor the
training for each individual resident as he or she anticipates their
future practice setting and career goals.
Our Unique Features.
Nationally, our program is known for its
longitudinal training in International Health. We are in
the 12th year of this specialized area of training, and we continue
to refine it. We also have a strong commitment to caring for
underserved populations here in the United States and continue to
develop curriculum and training experiences in this area. The shared
interests and common curriculum themes of these two areas of
training have led us to create a stronger community medicine
experiences for all trainees. We believe that all family physicians
need to be prepared to practice in any community environment and
care for individuals of any ethnic, racial, or socioeconomic
background.
Another unique training experience is the combined 5 year program in
Family Medicine/Psychiatry. This program, now in its 11th
year, produces broadly trained physicians who have depth in caring
for individuals with mental health problems. The family medicine
residents also benefit from this program; 7 out of the last 8 years,
the highest scores on the in-training examination for the program
are on the behavioral science section.
Outstanding Hospital Settings.
We are fortunate to have training experiences
in hospitals with national reputations. Our residents rotate through
Children's Hospital Medical Center for inpatient pediatrics,
emergency medicine, and specialty clinics. Cincinnati Children's is
one of the leading pediatric medical centers in the country
and was ranked by Child magazine as one of the top 5 in the country. Our
sponsoring institution and home hospital is The Christ Hospital.
This is one of the oldest community hospitals in Cincinnati and one
of the best, not just in the Greater Cincinnati area, but in the
nation. It has consistently been rated by U.S. News and World Report
as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country. The administration's
commitment to quality and excellence, the medical staff including
nationally known clinicians, and the professionalism of the
ancillary staff makes the hospital training experiences some of the
best anywhere. The program enjoys wide support from the hospital and
its medical staff. Our adult inpatient medicine and surgery
rotations, and our obstetrical services are based at TCH. Our
residency administrative offices are also based there.
We encourage you to look around the site
and learn about us. If your questions are not answered here, then
give us a call. We would be happy to talk to you.
