Section I - Executive Summary
The very first part of the teaching portfolio should be an executive
summary. The executive summary is a breif overview of the entire
packet and is intended to help orient the potential reader to
highlights contained in the packet. Use the following outline to
develop your executive summary. PLEASE NOTE: Not all sections may
apply to you
Section II - Self Assessment
-What is your philosophy of teaching?
-What are your Strengths as a teacher? Indicate unique aspects of
your teaching.
-What are your Weaknesses when it comes to teaching? What areas of
your teaching need improvement.
-How do you plan to build upon your strengths in the future? What
will you do to remedy your weaknesses?
Section III - Honors and Awards
-What honors and awards have you been selected/nominated for locally
or within UC?
-What national and international awards have you been
nominated/selected for outside locally or UC?
Section IV - Curricular Value
-Describe the courses you teach and their role played in the
curriculum.
-Include letters from former students commenting on your teaching
ability and/or impact on their academic career.
Section V - Teaching Methods
-What approaches to teaching have you tried?
-What instructional techniques do you use most frequently?
-What have you done to disseminate information about your teaching
methods to your peers inside and/or outside the College of Medicine?
Section VI - Creativity
-Provide examples of creative work you have done in regards to
teaching: Instructional technology, innovative demonstrations, etc.
-What have you done to disseminate information about your creativity
to your peers inside and/or outside the College of Medicine?
Secition VII - Student Evaluations
-On student evaluations, how do the Likert-Type ratings of your
teaching compare to those of your peers? (Quantitative Statistics)
-What comments have you received on student evaluations? What trends
or themes appear most frequently? (Qualitative)
Section VIII - Peer Evaluations
-On peer reviews, what are the Likert-Type ratings of your teaching?
(Quantitative Statistics)
-What comments have you received during peer evaluations? What
trends or themes appear most frequently? (Qualitative)
Section IX - Publications and Presentations
-Provide a listing (and representative samples of) articles you have
published dealing with educational issues.
-Provide a listing (and representative samples of) book chapters you
have published dealing with educational issues.
-Describe educational conferences you have attended dealing with
things you have learned.
Section X - Appendix
-Provide documentation supporting the items described in the
proceeding sections. These can include:
-Reprints -CD Roms -Website URL's -any evidence that may be
examined.
